CELEBRATE THE SUNBELT LIFESTYLE
AT OUR ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY!
Join us for an evening of open warehouse shopping,
refreshments, and presentations by local authors!
5:00 pm
Dr. Jay Vavra will present a slideshow of images from San Diego Bay: A Call for Conservation
This is the fourth book in a series that details the beauty and history of San Diego Bay and
its wildlife, written by the talented students of High Tech High. With hundreds of color photos
of the County’s shore birds, as well as other coastal and marine animals, including many
indigenous species, it’s no wonder Audubon magazine called this book a “brilliant source.”
6:00 pm
Gary Mitrovich, Vice President and co-founder of the San Diego Police Historical Association, will show images from and discuss his book, East of San Diego: The Lost History of the East San Diego Police Department 1912-1923. Widely recognized as an expert on both the SDPD and the now-defunct city of East San Diego, Mitrovichuncovers the lost history of a forgotten period in the history of SD law enforcement.
7:00 pm
Joey Seymour will discuss and show images from his new book, San Diego’s Finest Athletes: Five Exceptional Lives. Seymour, who has worked with various professional sports franchises including the LA Dodgers and the LA Angels, will discuss five San Diego athletes (past and present) who each shattered barriers for future minority athletes while accomplishing outstanding feats in their chosen sports.

Please Volunteer!
Read Local San Diego is a volunteer-run non-profit, and we need many people to help organize, advertise, set up, tear down, etc. for this kickoff event.
Read Local San Diego is a newly formed nonprofit marketing coalition that aims to get authors out from behind the computer and face to face with readers. We hope to create a richer reading experience for authors, readers, and the literary community by expanding the market for local publishers and authors, supporting the literary community that nurtures arts and culture in San Diego, and by encouraging a process of discovery for readers–of the wonderful authors in San Diego and the excitement of personal interaction with the creator of a book. We plan to accomplish these goals initially by compiling the most comprehensive, searchable online directory of authors available and by connecting readers and authors in a series of year-round, county-wide events
